Building a 10-second 2011 Mustang GT got a lot easier with the 5.0-liter engine and American Muscle proved that recently.
The well-known Mustang parts supplier took their automatic 2011 Mustang GT to the track with the addition of a Ford Racing Boss Intake Manifold and 150 shot of Nitrous. How about 10.43 @ 130?

One of the big stories from the 51st Annual NHRA Winternationals came about when Larry McMillen defeated defending NHRA World Champion Larry Dixon in the first round at Pomona, CA. McMillen had been confident going into the perennial classic after testing in Florida had logged a career-best ET of 3.823 seconds.

The final episode of SPEED’s drag-racing reality show, PINKS All Out, will air tonight at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Run at Firebird International Raceway, just outside Phoenix, host and executive producer, Rich Christensen, will arm-drop more than 400 grassroots drag racers through the event.

Shop equipment is one of those things that can fade into the background, but there’s nothing like a reliable car lift or even just a set of jack stands that you can count on.

In the continuing evolution of the marque’s muscle cars, the GTX held its own and led to an even greater competitor in the performance wars of the 1960′s. Plymouth muscle car history would continue to be written long after the Silver Bullet, but nearly no other street car played so part of that progression.

When it comes to classic performance products with a history, the list is certainly not hard to fill. Actually, he had something else to say, but it wasn’t intended for polite company. Dodson, who works out of Resurrection Motorsports in Arlington, TX, put that myth to bed earlier this month.

Starliner, Thunderbolt, Galaxie, Sunliner, Crown Victoria, 500 – all of these revered Ford model nameplates share a common ancestor, the Ford Fairlane which was introduced in 1955 as a full-size model. The rapid restyling cycles of that period would see the Fairlane shrink and grow through the years.

As used in the 1969 Mustang, the 428 SCJ engine was officially rated at 335 hp, however reports suggest that the actual output exceeded 400 hp. Ford executives had been worried about high HP ratings affecting insurance rates, but their understating the engine’s output had a secondary consequence.

What can you do in seven seconds? If the kettle is boiling, you can make your morning coffee (from instant) and add cream in about that time. Seven seconds is also the time it takes Mark Lutton’s GT500 to run the quarter mile these days.

In 1964, while Carroll Shelby’s A.C. Cobras were running away with road racing victories, a few of his employees convinced the man to provide a 289 Cobra to use for drag racing. Chassis number CSX2019 was designated as a Public Relations car and, with that the “DragonSnake” was born.

Chrysler has just announced that the 2011 Mopar Challenger Drag Pack will feature the 8.4-liter (512-cid) V10 engine with a 2-speed automatic transmission. The 2011 Mopar Challenger V10 Drag Pak features a Bright White paint scheme with color options. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is $85,512.

Those of you who think that the 1/8-mile run is for babies, need to think that through again. Breaking into the 4-second club when running the eighth-mile track isn’t for the faint of heart. Cars that do blow through the 4-second barrier typically run mid-sevens on the long track.

A total of fourteen Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak drivers showed up this past weekend at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, IN. Four days of ideal weather led to record-breaking performances on the racetrack and near-capacity crowds for the event.

Veteran drag racer, Donnie Bowles, reached another milestone at the 4th Annual JE Pistons NMCA Muscle Car Nationals last weekend in Milan. MI. Racing for the ROUSH Drag Team, Bowles took one of the team’s liquid propane-powered Mustangs to victory in Open Comp racing.

The Tacoma, WA, racer spent 208 days last year hauling his two NHRA drag cars around the country, racing and making friends along the way. Jack Roush was released from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MI, yesterday. Roush was being treated for facial injuries sustained during an extremely hard aircraft landing at Wittman Regional Airport, in Oshkosh, WI. Roush was piloting his Hawker Beechcraft Premier jet when the incident occurred.

In late 1963, the Ford Thunderbolt was born. An initial run of eleven cars were made. The Fairlane 500 2-door cars, all painted in Vintage Burgundy, were specially built in Dearborn and then sent to a company called Dearborn Steel Tube for the remaining conversion work.

The NHRA has reacted quickly to enhance safety requirements, following a pair of fatal incidents in June and July. The changes take effect next week and make the use of carbon fiber brake pads and rotors mandatory in several classes.

Respected, life-long NHRA drag racer, Mark Nivers, died on Sunday following a crash when his parachutes detached from the race car. Nivers was competing in the NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways, near Seattle, WA. The Top Alcohol dragster continued along the track and into the first catch fence at the end. The dragster appeared to suffer significant structural failure as the rear portion folded over the the front.

The Dana Point Concours d’Elegance has announced that the 2010 event Honorary Chairman, Don “The Snake” Prudhomme, will be exhibiting four of his classic Funny Cars, as well as his recently restored transporter. Headlining the exhibit will be Prudhomme’s original restoration of the only remaining Mattel Hot Wheels 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Funny Car as made famous during the “Snake vs. Mongoose” match racing promotion, which saw Prudhomme and Tom McEwen square off in match races across the country.
