Following an all-too-familiar trend, Dallas Raceway Park in Crandall, Texas announced last week that it would be closing its gates. The announcement on the tracks website stated the closure was due to “hard economic times and financial reasons.”

Beginning in January 2012, former IHRA Top Fuel champion and NHRA standout Tommy Johnson, Jr., and Kathy Fisher, former IHRA and NHRA Sportsman champion will host Fox Sports Networks brand new show, Performance TV.
The American Drag Racing League’s 2011 tour came to a close Sunday evening with their awards gala, held at the Champions Club within Texas Motorplex. The league recognized their new 2011 World Champions in each of their six categories, along with the “Battle For The Belts” winners.
Last weekend, the IHRA season came to a head with the Summit World Finals presented by RacingJunk.com at Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, Virginia. All said, nine drivers had taken different world championships by Sunday night, and all but two won their first title.
Jeg Coughlin, Jr. added two more wins to his record last weekend at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He won Friday’s event, worth $5,000, and promptly moved into Saturday’s events, netting another $10,000 paycheck in the Big Bucks event, part of the Tenn-Tuck bracket race.
On the weekend of September 23-25, Holcomb Motorsports will once again host the 16th edition of their highly-anticipated Outlaw Civil Wars event at the Rockingham Dragway in Rockingham, North Carolina, featuring drag races, a car show, swap meet, and an extensive vendor midway.
Modular Mustang Racing says that the block is “pricey,” but saves over 100 pounds, and is the strongest 5.4L block currently available. The block’s features include a different sized main oil galley and freeze plugs, coated aluminum bore (rather than the steel cylinder liner), improved oil drain back holes, etc.
The NHRA and Moser Engineering have announced that they’ll be introducing a brand new Sportsman Shootout for drivers competing in seven different sportsman categories for the 2012 season in Divisions 3 and 4, offering $15,000 in total payouts.
25-year-old Grace Howell is moving up in the NHRA world. This week, Cunningham Motorsports announced that Howell will be taking the reigns of the their Ford Mustang Pro Stock entry, beginning at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis on Labor Day weekend.

Last weekend at the Speedtech U.S. Drags IV at the Virginia Motorsports Park, the American Drag Racing League debuted Pro Modified as an exhibition class, and after a popular first outing, the series has announced that the category will return for the seasons’ final two events.
Love him or hate him, John Force is making his way toward drag racing history yet again. This weekend at Brainerd, he has a chance to score the 1,100th round win of his career, and with a victory, he would clinch a spot in the NHRA’s Countdown to 1 playoffs, assuring him a record 27 career Top 10 finishes.

This weekend was a historic one in Martin, Michigan. Despite lengthy rain delays and a damaged tower due to lightning strikes, all the weekend’s races went off, and by Sunday evening, there were new records made, and championships clinched.

Not many drivers can say that they won a major NHRA race within months of getting their first dragster on a track. Kristen Dennis can. She got licensed a mere two months before her first major win, the Dallas divisional, last year.
