We’re back in Joliet for the biggest and baddest street legal drag race all season long, the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing at the Route 66 Raceway, to bring you the news, notes, and photos from the street car extravaganza here in Chicagoland!
For the first time ever, the NMRA and NMCA roll into Auto Club Dragway in Fontana California for their west coast event. While there won’t be many NMRA and NMCA east coast racers at this event, and it’s being ran under mainly PSCA rules, we look forward to a good race on this warm weekend.

The NMRA and NMRA series converged upon the state-of-the-art zMAX Dragway in Concord, NC for the All Star Nationals, the second combined event in as many races on the schedule, where the two exciting head up series showcased exciting wheel-to-wheel action and some surprise winners.

Tim Matherly has been a fixture in the world of blue oval drag racing since the mid-1980’s. This mild mannered 44 year old has pedaled everything from a Pro 5.0 Mustang, big block Cougar Eliminators, juiced fox bodies, to his current NMRA Real Street ride; a blown 2-valve modular powered 2011 Mustang GT.
Modular Mustang Racing sent us a sneak peak of their latest twin-turbo modular engine that’s between the frame rails of a new Outlaw 2010 GT500 Mustang project. The Ventura, California based team plans to enter the car in PSCA Outlaw and NMRA Pro Outlaw class.
NMRA invaded Atco Raceway this past weekend for the third event this year. Friday’s eliminations were cut short due to a torrential down pour of rain! By Saturday the weather had cleared up and it made for some great racing. Records were broken and upsets would be found all the way through to the finals.
NMRA’s Hot Street class poses some unique difficulties – the strict rules being one thing, that put this particular Hot Street team a little back this year. However, with the help of Hell Bent Race Cars this sick little ’81 Capri is getting closer and closer to getting right back into the action that is the NMRA. For the second race of the year for NMRA, and the first trip back to Commerce in several years, the Tremec True Street class is looking to be a good showing as several racers that attended the Bradenton, Florida 2010 kickoff are planning to attend again in Georgia.
