The first-ever Reader’s Rides published last week was a certifiable hit, thanks entirely to the great cars that were sent in, and we’re back with another fresh round of sweet whips from the Dragzine faithful, featuring one with doors and one without.
Dean Smith Jr.
We’re suckers for a good looking Chevy II with a great stance, and Dean’s ’67 model definitely fits that mold, sitting low and mean with a blacked-out look that could kill. Nicknamed “The Regulator,” Smith’s deuce was built by esteemed chassis man and small-tire racer David Wolfe at Wolfe Racecraft in Texas, with ladder bar suspension and mini tubs part of the equation, along with sharp Billet Specialities wheels, a Racepak setup, and MSD 7531 ignition.
Under the hood is a 408 cubic inch small block producing 800 horsepower that, when paired with a dual nitrous fogger setup, pumps out some 1,500 horses. Smith hasn’t had the car on the race track yet to share any numbers, but this street-driven car ought to fly once he puts it in the beams.
Ronald Jackson Jr.
Ronald’s ride gets the dubious honor of being the first dragster featured here in the Reader’s Rides. The Baton Rouge, Louisiana native and the Jackson & Jackson Racing team campaign their ‘digger’ in the Super Pro bracket category all over the Southeast, cranking out low five-second eighth-mile runs and high sevens in the quarter with 1.0-second sixty-foot times.
The car was built by E-Z Chassis in Ventress, Louisiana, and is powered by a 528 cubic inch big block Mopar Wedge with Indy cylinder heads and Comp Cams camshaft and pushrods, exiting through a set of Hedman Husler headers. Backed by a BTE Powerglide transmission, the dragster sports a Moser 9-inch rear end with 4.10 gears turning a set of of Weld Racing wheels and 33.0 x 16 x 15 Hoosier slicks, along with an MSD ignition system and Auto Meter gauges.
The best elapsed times in the car are 5.05 and 7.92 in the eighth and quarter-mile, respectively.
Check back with us next week as we feature another set of Reader’s Rides! You never know, it just might be your ride getting some ink.
