Final DragZine Winner for Lunati’s Cam Giveaway Announced!

The Lunati Great Cam Giveaway contest for DragZine is officially OVER! But the contest will continue for the FINAL next two weeks on our sister magazine, ChevyHardcore.com. So, if you know any Chevy fans looking for a cam, send them that way – they will be announcing their contest today!

This Week’s First Winner

The first winner of our Cam Giveaway this week is this ’81 Regal WAGON, owned by Michael Wheeler. We read Landon’s story and loved the fact that this young racer is going with something different, and he’s even doing well enough to generate some wheels up launches! We want to see those tires higher in the air Michael!

“First off I would like to say this contest is great! There have been many awesome stories from cool people with great cars! My story started about 7 years ago when in college and I got the itch to go bracket racing. My father and I discussed a deal that if I purchased a car and took care of everything else, he would build the motor. No matter what car was found, the power plant would be a Pontiac! After searching and not finding much to start with, a friend of the family came to me and asked if I was interested in his truck.

I told him no but I knew he had a 82 Buick Regal wagon the was a solid, low mileage car. I told him I would take the wagon off his hands and he replied “”It’s yours!”” Two days later he showed up on my front porch with the car in the driveway and the title in hand so I guess you could say the car found me. The car then started its transformation from street duty to strip duty. The car was stripped down and a roll bar was installed. The car also was wired with the bare essentials needed to go down the track.

A 9″” rear with UMI suspension components was added to be able to get the power to the ground. Next a Th400 was built to be able to take the torque of the 455 Poncho. The motor is 12:1 and running stock unported heads. So far it has run a best of 11.72 at 112 in the quarter with a 1.51 short time but I believe there may be some top end power on the table. I must add, 100% of this car, with exception of the machine work on the engine, was built by my father and I. It has been a learning experience and sometimes frustrating and may have looked like an episode of Orange County Choppers in the garage at any given time.

As a team though we have managed to pull together and build a solid budget bracket car that wins some rounds. With so many cam choices available, I feel like the 30705 cam, which has a bit more duration than what we are currently running, would be a good upgrade to maybe get us deeper in the 11’s. We have run a few Lunati cams in small blocks and they have all seemed to perform well so I don’t think I will be disappointed with one for a Pontiac either. Thank you for your consideration and I hope to hear from you soon!”

This Week’s Second Winner – Justin Richards

The second winner goes to Justin Richards and his ’70 Maverick. We are impressed with Justin’s win streak while only being a mere 17 years old. Keep it flat black Justin and keep the money in the motor/suspension!

Hi Lunati I’m 17 and a huge fan. I currently race a 70 maverick and I dominate the high school races. I’m looking to enter a racing series but I don’t go fast enough to enter any. I’m busting my butt working constantly trying to earn enough money to afford racing and my parents can’t help me much since they don’t even have enough money to buy trans fluid for my dads cougar right now. Anyways, I ran a Lunati cam in another application and I was very satisfied. I currently run an Edelbrock cam in the maverick, the car LOOKS fast but she isn’t really fast.

I would love to step up to a Lunati cam and actually do some serious racing. I have the skills, I just need some help with parts and $$$. I wear your shirts proudly, and I’d love to put your decal on my car. Thank you, sincerely, a satisfied customer. I would like a 08601 camshaft if that’s okay.

Justin’s Cam Choice – Lunati PN 08601

Solid, rough Idle. Good cam for high performance street or mild bracket racing applications. Needs 3000-3500 RPM stall converter, headers, 9.5:1 compression ratio or better and 3.73 gearing or better.

  • Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 292/298
  • Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .563/.563
  • LSA: 106
  • RPM Range: 3200-7200

Last Week’s Winners

Travis Loggains

It’s been decades since the old Gasser-style Willys Coupes and similar chunks of iron roamed the dragstrips of America in their prime – the majority of them long-since retired to museum duty or relegated to the corner of an old barn. But don’t tell that to Travis.

Loggains, from Fort Smith, Ark., has spent the better part of 20 years scratching parts together to complete his absolutely beautiful ’41 Willys Coupe that harkens back the good ‘l days of drag racing. One look at this ride and we were hooked.

A former dirt track racer, Loggains has been using Lunati cams in his engines for more than 25 years, and often transferred one camshaft between several engines before an engine failure took it out, prompting the purchase of another.

I’d love to win a voodoo#60122 for my 41 willys coupe that Ive been scratching to build for 20 yrs.Ive used lunati for 25 yrs in my dirt track days sometimes transferring the same cam in 5 or 6 motors before something else broke and took out the cam. i think the 60122 would be a good match for my 2800 stall and 4.10 gears. I recently underestimated my cam choice and have no top end charge. i think this would give me what i need to take out the friendly rivalry in my class at the dragstrip.and the money that it would save me would buy some glass. lol!

Travis’ Cam – PN 60122

Hydraulic roller, lopey idle. Great street machine cam! Likes upgraded intake carburetor and exhaust. Needs 9.5:1 or better compression and 2500 RPM stall speed converter and a 3.42 or better rear gear ratio.

  • Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 282/290
  • Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 231/239
  • Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .535/.550
  • LSA/ICL: 110/106
  • Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
  • RPM Range: 2400-6200
  • Includes: Cam Only

Rachel Blankmeyer

Rachel, a second-generation gearhead, grew up working on cars with her father and admits she’s been hooked on cars and engines ever since. She later met her husband, also an avid drag racer, who promised to buy her a muscle car for the couple’s tenth anniversary.

Nine years later – a year ahead of the promised date – the couple found a ’68 Firebird was that was in a condition “just about too bad to fix up.” But Blankmeyer, thinking like any true car guru with 93 octane in the veins, decided that any muscle car was worth reviving, regardless of its condition, and the project was on from there.

After some debate, Rachel and her husband decided that Lunati’s 60904 camshaft was just what the doctor ordered for their Pontiac mill to allow for some future upgrades and to give the car a little of that rough idle we all know and love.

Hello. I would like to enter your contest to win a cam. I grew up working on cars with my dad and have been hooked on cars and engines ever since. Then, I met my husband who was also into drag racing. So my husband promised to get me my muscle car for our tenth anniversary. We found my 68 firebird about a year earlier then our tenth anniversary. However, she was just about too bad to fix up. I decided then that any muscle car was worth fixing up! So we bought the firebird. Any little extra money I can get; I buy parts for her. We are working on tearing her completely down and fixing anything bad from the ground up. I told my husband that it was my car therefore the parts for her were my responsibility and that I was going to work on her alongside him, instead of him doing all the work. We have gotten back an old motor that my husband had in his car when he originally bought it. The engine is a Pontiac 400. I eventually want to have a street/strip car when we get her all done. Any little help that I can receive to help put her all back together would be greatly appreciated! I’m not sure which cam I would need. My husband and I haven’t figured that out yet. After some debate we have settled on PN 60904. I wanted something that could handle some upgrades to the motor to make it a little bit faster down the track and something with a rough idle.

Rachels’ Cam – PN 60904

Hydraulic. Hot Street or bracket cam for 350 c.i. engines or heavier 400-455 c.i. vehicles. Will need 9.5:1 or better compression, 2800-3000 stall speed converter and 3.42-3.73 gears. Likes up to 200 HP nitrous. Cam has a very rough idle quality!

  • Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 276/284
  • Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 233/241
  • Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .504/.527
  • LSA/ICL: 110/106
  • Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
  • RPM Range: 2000-6000
  • Includes: Cam Only

The Lunati/powerTV “Great Cam Giveaway” is still going strong! This massive three-month-long contest is giving away 30 camshafts over the next 90 days, so you’ve got plenty of time to enter to win!
