PRI 2011: Penske Racing Shocks Triple Adjustable Drag Shock

To the average fan, drag racing might look extremely simple. Build a high horsepower engine, slap it into a car, mash the gas when the light turns green, and lay down a good time. But there is so much more that goes into each pass than what the average fans sees. We were shown one example of this at Penske Racing Shocks booth at PRI 2011, when they showed us their triple adjustable drag racing shock.

The 8760 Series shocks is a professional level drag racing shock and is available in a piggyback or remote style mount. It gives teams three methods of adjustments to help tackle starting line conditions. Teams are able to adjust the high and low speed compression settings, and also the rebound settings. “The high speed compression adjuster typically used to tune the car from track to track,” explained drag racing manager Aaron Lambert. “While the low speed compression adjuster is used to fine-tune the chassis in between rounds.”

8760 Triple Adjustable Feature:

  • Coarse ACME thread body for ease of adjustment
  • 45mm or 5mm bore size
  • 2.00″, 2.25″, or 2.50″ spring hardware
  • Extended lengths range from 10.0″ to 24.0″
  • Banjo swivel head hose available with remote version
  • Assembled to customer specifications
  • Owner rebuildable and revalvable
  • Personalized set-ups

all of our shock absorbers are built to order according to car and driver specifications

Aaron would also show us a new feature that can be attached to the 8760 eyelet that provides teams with a way to raise the nose of the car up after they cross the finish line. Tracks tend to get rough after the line and this helps keep the body and chassis from hitting the track in these bumps. “This allows racers to reduce the rebound face of the shock at any give point down the track,” explained Lambert.

Eyelet option features and benefits:

  • Allows racer to reduce the rebound face of the shock
  • 30 clicks of adjustment
  • System is connected to a Digiset timer and a Humphrey valve
  • Bleeds line pressure connected to the pneumatic eyelet.
