Holley has redefined their HP carburetors with their recently released Ultra HP line of carbs that continues to expend the product line of carb sizes for this race piece.
We talked with Holley’s Director of Advertising and Marketing, Bill Tichenor, about the success of the Ultra HP Carb. “The Ultra HP is a full-on race upgrade to our very popular 4150 HP series,” says Tichenor.
Pointing out some of the refinements to the Ultra HP Carbs, Tichenor explained that the float bowls on the unit held 20% more than the previous 4150 models.

- New “Hard Core” gray hard coat anodized coating for corrosion resistance

- 20% more float bowl capacity

Float Bowl Features
Tichenor went on to show us the redesigned float bowls on the Ultra HP, “starting with a drain plug that provides an easy means of emptying the float bowls, we have also added another customer requested feature, a clear pyrex sight window on both sides of the float bowl for easy float adjustments,” he states. Showing us some internal features of the float bowls, like a shelf below the needle and seat that minimizes aeration of fuel, to internal baffling that controls shoshing and float fluctuation in hard launching or hard cornering situations.
New Throttle Controls
We noticed the new throttle controls on the main body, which Tichenor explained were designed specifically for this race oriented carb. “This is a dedicated race-only throttle lever with all unnecessary street attachment points and tangs removed. The throttle controls also feature knurled primary and secondary curb idle screws that are easily adjustable by hand.”
Finishing Touches
