From X275 to the quickest doorslammers on earth in the PDRA Pro Extreme class and everywhere in between, you’ll find Neal Chance Racing Converters powering many of the machines shellacking the record books. In recent years, Marty Chance and his team have launched a number of impressive new converters, including the all-billet NXS for extreme blower and nitrous cars, the billet Lockup designed for Rossler two and three-speed TH400 transmissions, and an X275-specific unit.
Each of these converters have powered Neal Chance customers to race victories and right into the record books. Leading that charge is the mighty NXS, found in some of the quickest and fastest Pro Mod cars in the world — be they 1/8 or 1/4-mile.
“The NSX was a first of its kind — the world’s first split-blade pump impeller, which simply means there are half as many blades on the low pressure side and twice as many on the high pressure side,” explains Chance. “It’s about 35-percent fewer on the low pressure side, and 35-percent more on the high pressure than normal. On a blown car, it gives you exactly what you need — more slippage down low to get the engine speed up, which makes the motor happy, and then bring the driveshaft to it.”

Chance went on to explain the business side of these advancements, including the reinvestment in technology, personnel, and research and development, in order to make it all happen.
“Before the fire earlier this year, we bought four new machines at a cost of roughly a million dollars. That’s the kind of sacrifice it takes to keep up with technology. The first billet converter we did cost us $1.2 million and there years of research and development. I thought we were going to build it for ten grand, so it takes an enormous sacrifice.”
Like the NXS, the Lockup converter took the Pro Nitrous class by storm in 2014, winning nearly every single race of the season and setting the speed and elapsed time record. Neal Chance Converters were aboard the Pro Extreme and Pro Boost championship-winning machines.
