PRI 2017: ATI Reveals New 8-Inch Chrysler Bolt-Together Converters

The team at ATI Performance Products is continually working to develop new driveline technology and product offerings, but year in and year out they’re also delivering the knowledge and experience they’ve already gained with existing converters and transmissions into new applications. At this year’s PRI Show, they pulled the wraps off an all-new bolt-together, 8-inch converter for Chrysler racing transmissions — a first of its kind on the market, according to ATI’s JC Beattie, Jr.

What we’ve done is a bolt-together billet aluminum back cover, 8- and 9-inch direct slide-in Chrysler converter. If you wanted to do that previously, you’d have to convert the flexplate and everything over to Chevrolet. – JC Beattie, Jr. ATI

“What we’ve done is a bolt-together billet aluminum back cover, 8- and 9-inch direct slide-in Chrysler converter. If you wanted to do that previously, you’d have to convert the flexplate and everything over to Chevrolet. We’re four pounds lighter than a comparable steel converter and it’s bolt-together so you can take it apart and clean it or swap stators and not have to carry a bunch of converters.”

A bolt-together lock up converter has also been added to the lineup, coming in at a little heftier weight and size to accommodate the additional clutches needed for the lock up operatiob, but certainly worth the tradeoff on the race track.

Like ATI’s existing welded Chrysler converter, the bolt-together versions are designed for use with 904 and 727 Chrysler transmissions, which are found in Dodge Drag Pak cars, Super Stock Hemi’s, and a host of Mopar-powered machinery in drag racing.

“We made it so that it’s just a direct drop-in. You get the benefits of the bolt-together, and we’re saving weight. We just tried to make it like all of our other products: as high-quality as possible at a great price, and we’ve put all of the engineering and time behind it that we do anything else.”

The Chrysler bolt-togethers sport double o-ring seals, bolt-in billet aluminum mid-plate spacers, and removable bronze and steel pilot spacers varying mid-plate applications.
