SEMA 2014: Proform Adds Engine Build, Dress-up Parts

Proform’s new line of angled valve covers for later-model Gen I engines.

New to the 2015 Proform catalog are a number of products that will help the racer and engine builder, including a wireless shift light/tach, angled valve covers for center-bolt heads and aluminum ring squaring tools.

Wireless shift light with tach allows quick read of rpm while working on engine.

The wireless shift light is an option over the digital programmable version introduced last year. It features the same thin design that can be easily mounted and hooks up with just three wires. In the case of the wireless model, the transmitter is mounted under the hood. This allows the driver to not only use it as a shift light but also carry it around the car as a portable tachometer.

“It’s easy to read the digital rpm display while setting the idle or other tuning chore,” says Booth Platt of Proform.

On the colorful side, Proform showed off a new line of angled or slant-edge valve covers for GM center-bolt cylinder heads.

“They’ve been available for LS and earlier Gen I heads,” says Platt. “Now we have them for the center-bolt crowd”

Proform also showed off a valve-spring compressor for all LS heads, ring-squaring tools and mini valve-spring testers.

A total of seven valve covers will be available with some offering raised or recessed Chevy emblems. These covers are tall with additional internal clearance and come in a variety of finishes, including crinkle and polished.

The engine builder will appreciate a line of billet aluminum piston-ring-squaring tools. Three sizes are available: 4.000-4.230, 4.240-4.380 and 4.400-4.640-inch. Also handy will be a new mini valve-spring tester with built-in height measurement. Just dial in the spring height at which you want to test the spring pressure, insert spring and squeeze in a vice or press. The tool is also available in a digital model.

New from Proform are a bowtie-emblazed radiator cap and aluminum overflow tanks.

Some other new items from Proform include a universal LS valve spring compressor (earlier Proform tools worked only with LS1-style heads), radiator caps with the Chevy bowtie and aluminum overflow tanks.
