“Silver Bullet” Mustang with Dual Superchargers

The concept of forced induction first evolved during the bootlegging years of the Prohibition Era. People figured that if they could cram more air into the engine, along with more fuel, they’d make more power. And so it did. Forced induction has evolved in many ways over the years, and even though its been around since the days when alcohol was illegal there are still pioneers of boost out there.

Take the “Silver Bullet” Mustang brought to our attention by Autoholics. With two superchargers and a big block, there’s nothing stock about this old six-cylinder ’66 Mustang, and that’s just fine by us.

The Silver Bullet has actually been around for awhile, and this radical hot rod started life as a simple six-cylinder 1966 Mustang. But plans were already in place to turn it into much, much more. A tube chassis was built to accommodate a Chrysler-sourced 392 HEMI big block engine. These are the original “hot rod HEMI” engines, found in Chrysler’s full-size lineup during the late ‘50’s. Not only did a HEMI find its way into a Mustang though, the engine picked up dual superchargers along the way. The bottom supercharger is an 8/71, while the top supercharger is a 6/71 in an 8/71 casing to allow the car to be drivable (as though that happens often).

Backing up the engine is a beefy Powerglide transmission, meaning all of the Big Three are equally represented inside this Mustang. Not to be left out, the dashboard of a Mazda MX-6 has been shoehorned inside, giving it a modern look. An air bag suspension is fitted all around and the Silver Bullet has a show car-worthy paint job. We’re curious as to the street manners of dual superchargers. Maybe it’s the next automotive craze waiting to happen?
