1200 Horsepower Street Legal Camaro Wins Fonse Performance Dyno Wars

dynowars2

On January 18th, a cold day in northern New Jersey, Fonse Performance and K&S Race Cars teamed up to put on their 2014 Dyno Wars event. Nine cars showed up to take their shot on the dyno at the highest street-legal displayed horsepower, with the top five finishers using turbo boost to achieve the big number. The legality  of each car in competition was confirmed by inspection of a valid registration and insurance.

dynowars3Mike Serrano’s 106mm-boosted, big-block Chevrolet Camaro ended up coming out on top with a staggering 1,185 horsepower number at the wheels on his very last hit at the end of the night. For his efforts, he took home a sweet $1,000 check to go with a $250 Gift Certificate from the folks at Mickey Thompson Tires. Serrano’s blow-through combination is just plain sick – you gotta’ see this thing on the dyno to appreciate it – so watch the video below of his pulls.

Paul Vaughn’s small-block-Ford powered, turbocharged Lightning came in second place with 1,099 horsepower, which earned him a cool $500 and $250 Gift Certificate from Mickey Thompson. Andy Mulherin’s Cummins-powered diesel Ram truck nearly took the second spot, but fell in just six ponies behind Vaughn with a final number of 1,093 horses. For his efforts in earning the third spot, he collected $200 plus a $50 Gift Certificate from the folks at Atco Raceway. The fourth prize-winning spot and a $50 Atco Raceway gift certificate went to Scott Bastedo’s turbocharged and small-block Ford-powered Mustang, which turned the roller to a whopping 925-horse number.

Video of Serrano’s Runs –

There was a great turnout of high-horsepower cars, with Will Bryant’s Malibu cranking out 888 horses, Eric Hemphill’s nitrous SBF Fairmont clicking off 739 horses (with a faulty second stage of nitrous), and Carey Cable’s nitroused big-block Nova putting 720 up on the screen. In fact, this year’s lowest-horse competitor, Matt Mancinelli’s Cummins truck, turned out 674 horsepower at the wheels – which is 34 horsepower more than last year’s event winner. Tom Kolenkiewicz’s turbo small-block Mustang actually put up 971 horsepower but blew a head gasket in the process, eliminating him from the competition and putting him in the last spot. A nice field of sweet real street cars – enjoy the vids!
