The Ada County (Idaho) Coroner has confirmed the identity of the man killed at the Firebird Raceway on Friday prior to the opening of the strips’ 47th annual NAPA Ignitor as 65-year old Competition Eliminator racer Dan Barton of Post Falls, Idaho.

Barton was killed when the lift on his trailer door failed, crushing him as he unloaded his racing machine. Firebird Raceway medical personnel immediately began CPR as sheriffs deputies and paramedics arrived following the call shortly after 8:37 a.m. on Friday morning. A medical helicopter was summoned to the scene but called off as Barton died at the scene of blunt force trauma.

“On behalf of the racing community, NHRA and New family express their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the particpant who passed away following an accident unloading the race car,” stated Firebird general manager Scott New.

Barton finished fourth in the NHRA Northwest division Competition Eliminator standings in 2015 and eighth a season ago.
