There is such a thing as having a lot of horsepower. And then there is such a thing as having enough horsepower to merit adding a couple of well-chosen expletives into that description in order to properly explain just how much power you’re talking about. And if said horsepower is going into a car intended to be driven on the street…well, toss in a few exclamation points for good measure.
We came across this big, heavy Dodge Daytona over at SMRE Performance, aptly named the Holy Hemi, that is being built for Monty Miler out of the Palm Beach, Florida area. SMRE built the engine for this beast that Miler apparently has every intention of driving around on the street.
Between the massive fenders of this NASCAR-inspired Chrysler will rest a 540 cubic inch HEMI powerplant, which CJ over at SRME explains is based off of an Indy Cylinder Head block and cylinder head combination. This combo was modified to SMRE’s particular liking. Internals include a Callies crankshaft, Oliver rods, custom JE pistons, total Seal rings, in addition to SMRE’s custom coated pistons and a custom camshaft, along with some tricks to the block and
heads to be able to handle the 2,000 plus asphalt churning horses that this engine produces. The big HEMI is topped with a C&S 4500 Series Dominator carburetor that is fed by an F3 139 Procharger.
“He says he’s going to street drive it, but I can’t wait to see when he tries to do that. It’s gonna’ be pretty interesting. This thing on the dyno was just an animal. It’s really something else. This thing is really wicked, really big horsepower. It’ll just rip the tires off at the wick of the throttle, I’m sure of it,” explained CJ.
Regardless of whether the car even gets out of the hole without roasting the tires in place or not, you have to give him credit for going all and then some on a street driven car and it should certainly create one heck of an intimidation factor for anyone that wants to line up alongside it.
