When Airflow Research introduced their modular plastic intake manifolds, they gave racers a new level of flexibility for engines equipped with carburetors. These intakes allow for runners to be swapped out based on the engine, weight savings, and many other advantages over the typical cast intake. Now, Airflow Research has introduced the TXR Titon intake that lets racers upgrade to a larger Dominator-style carburetor on any Chevrolet engine.
The TXR Titon “Dominator” composite intake is designed to be used with the giant 4500 Dominator-style carburetors that are on the market today. This composite-style intake has recorded intake temperatures that are 30 degrees cooler than the standard aluminum intake manifold, and because it doesn’t get heat soaked, it allows for the air to be cooler as it enters the engine and generate more power. This intake also has the advantage of being significantly lighter than an aluminum intake to help offset the size of the larger carburetor.
According to Tim Torrecarion from Airflow Research, this new intake has parts that can be swapped with the other composite intakes in their lineup and doesn’t require major surgery on the engine to accomplish this. “If a customer is already running our composite manifold, then they just need to order the spider and swap the tops. There is no need to disturb the distributor or the coolant connections to upgrade from a 4150-style carb to the 4500.”
