The NMCA has a class for everyone; from 5-second Pro Mods to index cars and everything in between, the NMCA has many classes to choose from so everyone can get in on the action. One such index racer that’s out of the gate hard so far in 2015 is Detroit Truetrac Nostalgia Muscle Car competitor Andy Warren.
Warren’s big (it weighs 3,800 lbs. with him in it) Caprice relies on Fuelab’s Prodigy 41404 fuel pump, regulator, and filters to feed a hungry 427-inch small block built by Knieriem Racing Engines in Louisville, Kentucky. The Prodigy 41404 fuel pump is capable of delivering 200 gph at 20 psi, and be able to support up to 1,800 horsepower. Since it’s capable of motivating Warren’s Caprice to bottom 10s, we know that 427 is making power, but thankfully, with Prodigy 41404 pump, he has room to grow.
The engine uses a Dart block, heads, and intake. Intermingled in betwixt of those components is a Scat crank and rods, Ross pistons, a Comp Cams solid roller, and a Quick Fuel Technology carburetor.
Behind the small block is a ATF Speed/Bilbrey Automotive TH350 transmission with an Ultimate Converter Concepts 8-inch stall converter. TRZ Motorsports’ front and rear suspension systems hurry Warren down the track to the tune of 10.50s in class competition, but uncorked, the car is capable of running 10.20s at over 129 mph. He hopes to crack the 10-teens with a pair of Mickey Thompson’s new Pro Bracket Radials, which has proven to give racers another tenth. A Ford 9-inch rear is stuffed with a Strange Engineering spool and axles and Aerospace brakes all the way around provide the stopping power.
Warren won the Bradenton opener and just this past weekend won the NMRA/NMCA All Star Nationals at Atlanta Dragway. “Atlanta was my 20th NMCA win…hard to believe,” Warren says.
