Gearing up for the fall rendition of Duck X Production’s radial super-race, No Mercy V, a group of the heaviest of heavy hitters in the premiere Radial vs the World class took to the Holly Springs Motorsports eighth-mile for one final test session. Taking shots at the uber-tacky Mississippi track, which featured some KILLER atmospheric conditions as well, was current Radial King DeWayne Mills, along with perennial powerhouses Keith Berry, Mark “Woody” Woodruff, Steve Crisafulli, Mark Micke, Christopher Daniel, and Willard Kinzer, along with several X275 teams. While most of the teams kept a tight lip on data for the most part, there have been some numbers that reached the public, and what was shared was very impressive.
In X275, Shane Crowden returned to action for the first time in almost a year after detonating his powerplant last fall at Holly Springs’ Fall Brawl. Crowden’s pretty blue Fox Body knocked down progressively quicker ET’s throughout the day as the team crept up on the nitrous tuneup. Starting the session with a safe 4.86, Shane reeled off passes of 4.82, 4.77, 4.76, before ending the day with a 4.72, having knocked .14 off his elapsed time in just five passes.
In RvsW, Mark Micke wheeled the Turbos by Garrett Malibu to a stout 198 MPH pass. Said car owner Jason Carter of the pass: “We still need to work on our 60′ and 330′ times, but the power is there to lay down a number.” As you can see from their timeslip, Micke and Carter laid down the 198 MPH pass at 10:45 am, after which they loaded up and headed southeast toward SGMP. Keith Berry laid down a new personal best of 4.13 on, in his words, a “soft hit”. Berry is running a new, more aggressive camshaft, along with ProLine Racing’s new Fuel Tech standalone fuel injection system. When asked for predictions for No Mercy, Keith answered succinctly and boldly: “Mills – 4.04, Myself – 4.06, Kinzer – 4.07, Crisafulli – 4.08”.
That’s all the hard numbers we have from the test session, though there were certainly more passes made. Also, there are also rumors of ProLine testing a car with Eric Dillard at the wheel, but at the moment, further details are not available. We will share any info we find promptly.
