BoostedGT’s New Ride Coming Together At Team Z Motorsports

Chris Hamilton, better known in the racing community as BoostedGT, has become a household name for his exploits on Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws reality television show. We’re sure you’ve seen how he even “moved” to Oklahoma City to be closer to the action and get on OKC’s Top 10 list. Hamilton had previously campaigned an SN95 Mustang that helped him gain notoriety, but he’s probably more famous for the New Edge ‘Stang that he’s campaigned on the show the last few years.

The basis for the car is a 25.3 chassis that Dave started working on 8 years ago, but the aforementioned accident pretty much closed down the shop for about 6 weeks.

Recently, Hamilton had a minor incident with the car and tagged the wall, but quickly had it fixed and got back in action. However, with the current slant toward more serious, purpose-built race cars, Boosted isn’t content to be left behind.

Team Z Motorsports is currently building this new car for Chris, which as you can see, is a definite step up from his New Edge ride, which itself featured Team Z front and rear suspension systems. Hamilton’s current small-tire ride leans much closer to a legitimate street car, whereas the new build is being built from the ground up with all-out performance in mind.

Team Z’s Dave Zimmerman tells us the story on the new car is a funny one. Zimmerman had actually bought the car you see here as a body-in-white back in 2005 when Ford introduced the S197 body style. “I snagged it real early,” Dave says. He started building it for Stanley Morton, but Dave was injured in a car accident, and had to close Team Z for roughly six weeks. During that period, Morton came and got the car and took it home to Oklahoma.

Team Z is building two rear ends for the car: one for a small tire combination, and one for a big tire. That will give Chris the option on which tire he wants to run for a certain event, or race.

Fast forward a few years, and Hamilton meets fellow racer Kayla Morton, who has also appeared numerous times on Street Outlaws. Sparks flew in more ways than one, and the two become a couple, recently welcoming a baby boy into the world. Well, as you’ve probably have put together, Stanley Morton is Kayla’s father.

This is Chris Hamilton's current ride, a New Edge Mustang with a small-block and a single turbo. Chris has progressed up the OKC list with the car, but with everyone else building serious cars, Chris knew he had to step up his game to get higher on the list.

Realizing the need to step things up to run with the quickly-evolving street and no-prep competition out there, the car was taken back to Team Z to be completed so Hamilton could drive it. The Mustang had been stored all this time in a barn, and when we talked to Zimmerman about the car, the shop was in the middle of installing carbon wheel tubs and front end components, along with the rear wing and fresh new Optic Armor windows.

Zimmerman tells us the combination will be a small-block Ford on alcohol with SC1 heads and twin turbochargers. The transmission will either be an automatic or a Lenco, but the car is being set up for both. Speaking of which, it will also have two Team Z-fabricated rear end housings: one for a small tires, and one for a big tire-combination, giving Hamilton plenty of freedom to change things up in the future.

If everything goes as planned, we should see BoostedGT’s new whip on Street Outlaws next fall. Of course, if Hamilton debuts the car at any races in the spring, you might get a first look at the car before it hits the show. Zimmerman says he hopes to have it ready for paint soon after the New Year. What that color will be, we don’t know. It only seems right that it be Chris’ signature yellow, but we’ll all have to wait and see.
