Bounty For Beating Lamb Is Upped After Second Super Shifters Win

What do you do with a Coyote Stock car in between NMRA races? If you’re Jacob Lamb you head out to some stick-shift shootouts, bang gears in the small tire classes, and win some races. Lamb has jokingly said “I guess my car remembers its days as a Mod Motor racer because it still likes bracket racing.” This past weekend Lamb got a little practice racing in prior to NMRA’s Norwalk event (happening June 13-15). Lamb hit the Bluegrass Super Shifters race at I-64 Motorplex.

Competing in the S-Stick class for cars running 8.49 and quicker 1/8 mile ETs, Lamb setup his car on a set of 8.5-inch slicks and played with tuning his two-step system to net faster 60-foot times. In our conversation after the race Lamb said he ran his best 60-foot ever with a 1.35 that night, banging the gears out to a best ET of a 6.688.

After a first round by-run Lamb picked a dial-in of 6.69, and faced an opponent driving a Chevelle with the exact same dial. Chopping down the tree, Lamb got the early jump at the starting line and the race was on all the way to the 1/8 mile stripe. Running out the backdoor Lamb managed a 6.688 pass, with the Chevelle running a 6.678 and breaking out. Margin of victory was just 0.0025.

In the S-stick final round the Coyote stock racer would face the two time Street Stick Champion and Bluegrass Super Shifters organizer Tom Borgia. Again Lamb brought his A-game to the line with a .009 light to Borgia’s .050. Lamb ran out a 6.70 on his 6.68 dial-in to take the win over Borgia’s 7.93 on a 7.90 dial-in.

With a $50 bounty on his head, Lamb collected not only the race’s purse but also his own bounty. The next Bluegrass Super Shifters race is at Thornhill Dragway on June 28, and Lamb expects so heavy competition will be there to take out the Coyote. In fact not only has the $50 bounty been reinstated, but the owner of Thornhill has put a $100 bounty up for whoever can send Lamb home early.
