It appears that the American Drag Racing League is raising the bar once again, announcing via their Facebook page on Tuesday evening the addition of Outlaw 10.5 as a new eliminator with the 1/8-mile heads-up drag racing series. This news comes just weeks after the series made the blockbuster announcement that it would be adding the wildly popular Pro Drag Radial category to its class lineup. Pro Drag Radial debuted just two weeks ago the ADRL U.S. Drags VI in Virginia and featured a number of Outlaw 10.5 and NMCA Super Street 10.5W heavy hitters on the 315 Drag Radial tire.
Per the announcement, the ADRL is expected to issue an official press release on Wednesday outlining their plan for the addition of what has long been one of the most popular categories in all of drag racing, with rules, payouts, and the planned debut to follow. Outlaw 10.5 remains strong today despite a sizable drop in participation since its heyday in the mid- 2000’s, with a large following in the Northeast and some staunch competition on the West coast, albeit in fewer numbers. The addition follows the discontinuation of the Extreme 10.5 category, which waned in participation numbers in 2011 and 2012 and was removed from the event lineup when Nowling re-took the helm last winter. We’ll have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
Below is the unofficial announcement shared by the ADRL on Facebook:
ADRL TO ADD OUTLAW 10.5 TO GREATEST DOORSLAMMER SHOW ON THE PLANET!!!
While an official press release will be issued tomorrow, we can confirm that ADRL officials have been in closed door meetings all day finalizing a sponsorship that will add Outlaw 10.5 to the 2013 ADRL Tour presented by Speedtech. “After the tremendous response from our fans about Pro Drag Radial, this seemed like the next logical step,” said ADRL President Kenny Nowling. “It was then our job to go out and secure the sponsorship to make it happen, which is exactly what we did.”
