Data acquisition at one time was something that was reserved for only the biggest and most well-funded teams in drag racing, but the trickle-down in technology has brought it to the masses. Now, any racer can monitor virtually every function imaginable on their car, from EGTs to driveshaft speed, ride height, and wheelie bar operation. Now, Racepak has expanded the idea of data acquisition beyond just the car to improve performance, allowing racers to monitor their heart rate during a run with a V-Net Heart Rate Monitor.
How a driver is feeling inside the car can have a direct impact on things like reaction time, shifting accuracy, and decisions at the stripe in bracket racing. Even though heart rate monitoring technology isn’t new by any means, it’s now finding a home and a usefulness in racing with this new product from Racepak. Having the ability to look at the data from their heart rate will arm a racer with another tool to improve their performance.
The V-Net system streams via wireless Bluetooth signal from the monitor on the driver, to the Racepak data logging system. By adding this data to a run log, a racer can see what their heart rate is doing at different points during a pass. Super Stock racer Brenda Grubbs used the system to monitor her heart rate when she was testing her new car. She was able to see just how high her heart rate was before, during, and after the run. This heart rate data will allow Grubbs to adjust her routine and become more focused before each run in the future.
