[1]The Plymouth car brand has not existed as an independent automaker for more than a decade. The names of the cars it once sold like the Barracuda, Road Runner, and of course the Duster have all but disappeared from the lexicon of contemporary auto enthusiasts. But drag racers still remember and love these old cars, even going so far as to build modern race cars around classic bodies and names.
Over on the Chris Issacs Racing Team blog [2] is the build of a 1970 Plymouth Duster done in conjunction with Spencer Tramm. This twin-turbo Duster is being built for the MSA British Pro Modified series, and the build process has us eagerly anticipating the finished product.
If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to build a professional level drag racer, you need to check out the entire blog post on the Chris Issacs site. The post goes into great detail about everything from roll cages and fuel cells to breather tanks and steering columns. Surprisingly, there isn’t a lot of info on the powerplant, save that is a 521 cubic-inch big block formerly used by the Lindberg brothers in their ‘68 Firebird.

With two turbochargers and a lot of cubes, it is anybody’s guess how much power this motor is making. For now, the car looks mostly complete, and plans are to debut it at some point in 2013. It looks like this old Plymouth is almost ready for a new season of reason, and those limey Brits better watch out.
