Chris Wilson has been drag racing on and off for over 30 years at different levels, but his newest racecar is perhaps his most unique. The veteran racer will be invading the X275 ranks in a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro that won’t be using bowtie power under the hood, but rather a very potent small-block Ford engine package that was built by Disomma Racing Engines and once belonged to heads-up kingpins the Bruder brothers.

Chris and his wife Shelley commissioned Josh Gray and his team at Skyview Racing & Fabrication [6] to create this amazing racecar for the 2017 season. The Camaro retains its factory shell, including the doors, floor, firewall, factory glass, and it even still has power windows. The only weight reduction implemented in the build by Skyview was a VFN [7] front clip, hood, and decklid. The chassis is a chrome-moly 25.3 SFI-certified design that was built in-house by Gray using Bend-Tech Assembly software. All of the suspension parts were also fabricated in-house by Gray and work with a full set of Menscer Motorsports [8] shocks at each corner of the car.

The powerplant of choice is unique since you rarely see a Ford engine in a GM car; usually, it’s the other way around. According to Gray, this motor is built to make some power and should be a threat in X275.
“The engine is a Windsor-based small-block Ford built by Bruder Brothers Racing and Disomma Racing Engines [10]. It uses a set of MBE [11] billet heads and Billet Atomizer [12] injectors to supply the fuel. The engine management duties will be handled by a FuelTech [13] FT600 and AMS 2000 [14] boost controller. For the rest of the driveline, a M&M Transmission [15] Turbo-glide with a Neal Chance Racing Converters [16] bolt-together converter will be used,” he tells us.

Providing the boost for Wilson’s hybrid will be a Precision Turbo [19] 80mm unit, with the hot and cold side of the turbo system being built by Skyview.
Currently, Wilson is working on shaking the car down and getting ready to start attending X275 races all over the country. This Camaro is sure to draw a lot of attention and stir up some controversy on both sides of the brand wars because of the body-to-engine swap, but one thing’s for sure, with the Bruders’ weapons-grade horsepower under the hood, this F-body will fly!
