Clay Millican Joins Bob Vandergriff Racing for 2013 and Beyond

After operating as a single-car team for most of his career, Bob Vandergriff is gaining a full-time teammate. Clay Millican and Parts Plus have signed a multi-year agreement to join Bob Vandergriff Racing that will include the 2013 through 2015 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series seasons. Millican and Vandergriff will compete as a two car team, and are hoping to capitalize on the benefits that come along with having more data.

[2]Vandergriff’s past two seasons included his first career win in Dallas in 2011, a follow-up win in Las Vegas 2012, and two Countdown appearances. Now, Vandergriff is looking to expand on this success while competing for a championship.

“Our goal has been to add a full-time team to complement our C&J Energy Services team and we are finally able to do that.” C&J and their subsidiaries, Total Equipment and Casedhole Solutions, will also be supporting the Parts Plus team, said Vandergriff. “To compete on an even playing field with the other elite teams, we knew a second team was paramount to our success. Bringing Parts Plus with their entire network to our program and having the ability to bring a great driver and fan favorite like Clay to our team is huge plus for us.”

Millican’s remarkable success in the IHRA has not translated to a win yet in the NHRA. While he is proud of his 51 national event wins and six championships in the IHRA, those numbers don’t mean anything in the NHRA. The level of competition is much greater, and to be successful, Millican knew he was going to need a teammate.

“I can’t wait to get started and I’m excited about joining Bob Vandergriff Racing,” said Millican. “BVR has made great strides and will provide me the opportunity to not only win races, but compete for the championship! Bob has assembled a quality team of crew chiefs and personnel and I’m looking forward to being a teammate to Bob. We both have lofty goals for the upcoming season!”
