No Prep racing as founded on the idea of simulating the same conditions they saw on the street, but in a safe and controlled environment where they wouldn’t have to worry about law enforcement breaking up their events. The tricky conditions you see at a No Prep event lead to some of the most exciting racing you will ever see and hairy rides that will put you on the edge of your seat. Cody Jones had one of those crazy-close calls this weekend when he was racing Chase Kurszewski at the No Prep Mayhem event in Kansas and had to use every bit of stopping power his brakes had to offer.
In the No Prep world Jones is one of the best Small Tire class racers out there behind the wheel of his Morgan & Son-powered Mustang. Jones has picked up multiple wins and series titles by being in-tune with the setup of his car and making smart choices as a driver. Kurszewski is also a great No Prep racer and is always a threat to go rounds at any event no matter how tricky the surface is.
During the No Prep Mayhem event at Kansas International Raceway this past weekend Jones and Kurszewski lined up for a huge race during Small Tire eliminations when things got interesting in a hurry. As both cars rocketed down the track on what appeared to be a superb race Kurszewski’s car made a sudden move to the left and ended up directly in front of Jones. With an unexpected visitor in his lane, Jones slammed on the brakes, narrowly missing Kurszewski while keeping the damage minimal to his own car.
Since Kurszewski did cross the centerline Jones picked up the win, but his car had sustained some minor damage after light contact with the guardrail. To make the next round Jones and his team used as much duct tape as they could get their hands on to repair his Mustang, and then went on to win the entire event!
