Commerce Bound for True Street – 7s in sight

For the second race of the year for NMRA, and the first trip back to Commerce in several years, the Tremec True Street class is looking to be a good showing as several racers that attended the Bradenton, Florida 2010 kickoff are planning to attend again in Georgia.

True Street record holder Randy Seward is going to make the trip up from Orlando sans trailer for a true test of reliability. A couple of the guys from Muscle Mustang and Fast Fords Magazine are tagging along and the Rockstar Performance (Blair Brannock and myself) crew are meeting up with them at 5 AM Friday morning on I-75 for the caravan to Commerce.

In the recent NMRA/NMCA events at Bradenton, Blair had some problems with traction. What we thought was a potential simple issue with the Eaton differential in Little Blue, a full inspection after the NMCA race revealed a broken passenger side rear shock. Some of the burnouts at the NMRA event were not suffecient and led to some traction issues. That was rectified at the next race but still not hooking. Also on the last pass it would not shift properly into high gear.

Blair installed new Strange double adjustable rear shocks and a front end limiter kit sourced from A.R.T. in Pinellas Park. The shock installation kit and set up notes were provided by Mike Brash at TRZ Motorsports.

The car was then dropped at JBR Automotive in New Port Richey Tuesday morning, for the Trans R&R and a round of maintance on the lift. The trans was removed and sent to Trans Are Us in Palm Harbor for a look see.

Here Matt Jones and Blair lift the trans onto a jack for reinstallation.
No broken parts were found but some of the clutches showed excessive wear and high gear was not pretty. Upgraded parts were installed and new seals all around.

Larry Jones pulled out the differential and replaced it with a lightweight spool from Auburn. Matt took care of mounting up a set of Hoosier 275 Drag Radials for testing.

Randy had problems of his own at the recent races. During the Spring Break Shootout his locker differential broke and took an axle with it. For the NMCA race he upgraded to 35 spline Lenco Locker set up, that didn’t make it through Saturday’s event, so he has went to a spool as well.

Alan from the Whirlpool crew is headed up from Warner with his Green 97 turbo, Jason Borne has not commited at this time however. I read over at NMRAdigital.com that Team Hurley is bringing four cars including the new “fast car”, as well as Steve Petty to help get that one ironed out. Yes ladies and gentleman, True Street has hit the big time. How fast will Hurley’s “fast car” be ? Brannock wants the record, will he get it ? Will Seward repeat after a 500 mile ride ?? I will have random updates of our adventure throughout the weekend here at Stang TV so stay tuned in to find out who will have the Crown when the dust settles in Commerce, as well as some news from heads up qualifying action.
