We’ve seen boatloads of S197 Mustangs make their way into some pretty competitive heads-up classes, but we’ve noticed the lack of GT500 inspired rides. When Competition Auto was in search of a way to make their car really standout, a Shelby GT500 body with a vibrant attention grabbing orange paint scheme was a no-brainer. With Billy Henderson at the wheel, Competition Auto is simply hoping to have a little fun, become competitive and with some luck, take home a few wins in Outlaw Radial or True 10.5.
Checkout the car’s unveiling over on Yellow Bullet.
The Mustang specialists at Competition Auto may be keeping the engine and suspension pics to themselves for now, but they were kind enough to let us know this GT500 is keeping a Modular 5.4L in the spotless engine bay, force-fed with a 106MM Precision turbo in place of the factory blower. All we know about the rear suspension in this Shelby is that there’s nothing stock about it.
Aside from the paintwork, and Tim Bradham doing the chassis-work and constructing the 25.2 spec cage, Competition Auto has performed all the work in-house right down to the tuning and working with the AMS 1000 Boost Controller. As for when we’ll get to see this killer Orange GT500 hustling down the 1320, they hope to have the car out sometime after Mustang Week wraps up at the end of July, or the beginning of August at the latest. With the GT500 front clip, burnt orange paint and stand-out Billet Specialties wheels, this car just plain looks fast standing still, and we can’t wait to see how she looks trapping 180+ on the big end. Hopefully the rather unfavored single turbo setup wont be a hold-up, and these guys can make like Dan Millen or Spiro Pappas to squeeze every ounce of power out of the single turbo combo.
