Dillon Voss Ready To Wrap Up Outlaw 632 Title At PDRA World Finals

Outlaw 632 racing has been a fairly popular heads-up class in the southern United States with a full series in Florida, and even making an appearance at the Duck X Production races. In 2017 the PDRA picked up Outlaw 632 to run at select events and be a part of their championship points chase. Class regular Dillon Voss has taken full advantage of the opportunity to race with the organization and is trying to lock up the 2017 points title in Outlaw 632.

Voss and his team have been racing in the Outlaw 632 class for some time and even build engines for other racers out of their shop Voss Racing Engines. They had been campaigning a Chevrolet Cobalt with some success but decided it was time for a new car. They commissioned longtime partner Richard Earle at Suncoast Racecars to build a 2017 Z06 Corvette that would be used in Outlaw 632 battle.

Suncoast built the Corvette and filled it with quality parts from Mark Williams, Aerospace Components, AFCO, and topped it off with a carbon fiber body from Advanced Fiberglass Concepts. Powering the car is a Voss built 632 cubic-inch BBC that uses a Brodix block, billet crank, aluminum rods, and Mahle billet pistons. A set of Edelbrock BV3 cylinder heads were worked over by Frankenstein Engineering Dynamics to achieve maximum airflow and are matched to a billet Voss Racing intake manifold. Moroso provided the full oiling system that’s used to keep the engine lubricated. This is still a clutch car that uses a Liberty Extreme five-speed transmission and Ram 10-inch billet dual disk clutch to aid in the gear changes.

The Outlaw 632 class is something that Voss enjoys racing in because of the challenges it provides and the interesting mixture of cars that compete in it. Dillon’s brother Cory is the crew cheif for the team and goes into detail on why they like the class. “There are a variety of combinations to compete against like naturally-aspirated clutch cars and multi- and single stage-nitrous system cars. The class over the last few years has really evolved and multiple teams have pushed the envelope, so it has been a thrill trying to remain a front-runner,” Voss says

Voss made his Outlaw 632 reputation behind the wheel of his Cobalt (Left) and was able to win the second GALOT race behind the wheel of a Camaro (Right).

To get into a position to lead the points Voss has won two events this year. The first came behind the wheel of a borrowed car, and the second was racing the Corvette after it had just been finished at the track during the Drag Wars event.

“We missed testing at GALOT on Thursday and the first qualifier getting the car put together. The second round of qualifying was our first full hit on the car and we went straight to the second qualifying position with a 4.40 at 161 mph. That eased the nerves and really allowed us to go into race mode. We ended up going a 4.33 in round one and then reset our career best in the semi-final round with a 4.289. In the finals we reset the class record with a 4.282 allowing us to win our second consecutive national event with the PDRA,” Voss explains.

Voss and his team have worked hard this year on being more focused and consistent, so winning the PDRA Outlaw 632 World Championship would fully validate their efforts. To win the title Voss plans on racing a smart race at Virginia Motorsports Park and to keep doing what got him to the top spot in the points standings. “We’re going into the finals looking to play it safe. We have to go a few rounds, we have a great car and have a great shot of locking this championship up,” Voss says.
