Coughlin Brothers Racing, owned by second-generation drag racers John, Troy, Mike, and Jeg Coughlin Jr. have announced that they have teamed with Nick Ferri and Roy Simmons to construct a state-of-the-art engine shop that will produce Pro Stock engines for consumers around the world.

JNR Racing plans to build and lease racing engines from its Research and Development facility, which will be located in the heart of stock car country in Moorseville, NC. Between Ferri, Simmons, and the Coughlin family, the group has collectively earned four NHRA Pro Stock titles since 2002.

“We are extremely excited to align ourselves with Nick and Roy,” Jeg Coughlin said. “We have all worked together in the past and know what it takes to put a championship caliber engine program together. Our goal is to do this like it’s never been done before. We want to build the best horsepower possible for our customers. We fully intend to supply our customers with the best products and service in the world. The motors we build will be capable of winning races and championships, and we’ll stand behind everything we build.”

Simmons joined the JEG’s team in 2001 and paired with Ferri to start an in-house engine program for Team JEGS, both of which worked closely with family patriarch Jeg Coughlin Sr. In 2002, Simmons, Ferri, and Jeg Jr. captured the Pro Stock title, and after parting ways in 2004, Jeg and crew chief Simmons were reunited at Cagnazzi Racing, where they captured the 2007 and 2008 NHRA crowns. Now, Ferri and Simmons are both thrilled to continue their relationship with the Coughlin’s and their career path in the engine building spectrum, with the prospect of ownership in the end result.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do,” Coughlin said, “and we’re getting after it right now.”

JNR Racing plans to have engine available for lease later in the 2011 season.
