Of all places to find a real 1970 HEMI ‘Cuda for sale, you’d think Craigslist would be last on the list. That’s not the case here, as this owner has what he says is a real ‘Cuda with only 5,880 miles on the clock for sale. The pictures may lead you to believe otherwise, but if what he says is true you could have the find of the year.
For example, a quick search of eBay found this restored ’71 Cuda for the Buy It Now price of a whopping $289,900. Of course, this example is fully restored with all of the proper documentation, but it goes to show what collectors value these cars at these days.
The Craigslist find claims to be an “R” code car, which means it came out of the factory with the tire-shredding 425-horse 426 HEMI engine and a 4-speed manual transmission. The owner claims that the engine is dated correct for the car, although it does not have a VIN number on it, and there is minimal rust on its flanks.
According to the owner, the car was raced by “the legendary Earnest Montgomery”…who we’re unfamiliar with and have been unable to unearth information on, but if you know more, we’d certainly welcome any commentary. Nonetheless, if you’re interested in purchasing this HEMI ‘Cuda, go and check out the ad. You just might score the deal of a lifetime if you’ve got $85K burning a hole in your pocket. Or you might not. It’s a steep price for what appears to be little more than a parts car or a pet project in need of a lot of TLC.
