Heads-up drag racing and its various classes are always in a perpetual state of motion when it comes to innovation and elapsed times. Top level racers can struggle keeping up with the pack in their own class, let alone several, or even jumping classes. Popular New york racer Dave Hance has set records and won events and championships since the 1990’s, and now he’s taking on a new challenge, changing not only classes but power adders.
The New York Motorsports camp has decided to dive into the deep ocean of Pro Nitrous with his new hot rod nicknamed “beastie no sleep ride” after the Beastie Boys hit “No Sleep Till Brooklyn”. Hance says “Over 20 years ago we would be up all night in Scotty G’s shop working on our small block nitrous car listening to “No Sleep Till Brooklyn” track. Two weeks ago the same crew was up tip 3 a.m. working on this project….20-plus years later doing the same stuff with same people.”
Yep, that’s right Hance has enlisted the help of none other than drag radial nitrous guru Scotty G to help him get the beastie tearing up the track.
Hance is making the change for many reasons and says, “We’ve raced in several different classes including Drag Radial, Outlaw 10.5 and Pro Mod. Being involved in a Pro Nitrous car and working with Bigstuff3 EFI on a nitrous application will be quite a challenge.”
There’s no doubt even on a tight budget that Hance will hit his goal of running in the 3.80’s and making the field of a PDRA race this season. More importantly, Hance and his team are in this for the fun of it. “You know, 90-percent of the Pro Nitrous class consists of handsome and slender drivers. We’d like to end the perception that drivers who may have waist sizes in the 40’s and who also may be hair follicle-challenged can still be competitive in this great class.”
In this video from TheRacingVids you can see Hance getting the car into the 6.40’s in its debut race while running right down Broadway each time.
