DeWayne “Big Daddy” Mills has done it again. In the thick Maryland air at this years Yellow Bullet Nationals, Mills and his Golden Gorilla Camaro have dropped the world record for a radial-equipped car.

Late Friday night, DeWayne strapped in his ProLine-powered Chevy and blistered the Cecil County Dragway surface to the tune of a 4.06 elapsed time at 196 MPH. The pass knocked a full two hundredths off of the record Mills and his Oklahoma-based team set in Tulsa just over a month ago.

The Yellow Bullet-hosted event isn’t typically known as a major radial-tire race, often forgoing the flypaper-sticky track prep radials require for record-breaking performances in lieu of a less-tacky prep that is easier for slick-tire cars to manage. That seems to have changed this year, as Mills led several radial racers who laid down new personal bests in the late qualifying session on Friday night. Also setting new bests were the Mewshaw/Fratena team who pushed their third-gen Trans Am to a 4.15, along with Scotty “Scotty G.” Guadagno who drove his beautiful blue late model Camaro to a 4.18, leading the way for the nitrous-injected contingent.

Also of note, Keith Berry laid down a 1.07 60′ on his qualifier before his sleek black Corvette powered into a wheelstand, which Keith had to pedal to wrangle back to earth safely. Upon seeing the new best sixty-foot time, Berry confidently predicted that he would join Mills and Jamie Hancock in the exclusive “4.0 Club” tomorrow after he hangs a few pounds of ballast on the nose of his twin-turbocharged small block rocket.
