The official entry list for Drag Week 2015 has been released, and as always, it’s includes an absolutely packed roster from top to bottom, in the myriad of classes that the event offers, from Unlimited down to the Street Machine Eliminator cars. The maximum allotment of 350 cars are entered for this year’s contest, and the event once again filled up quick, selling out in just 16 minutes.
The big story, of course, is the Unlimited category, where the biggest stars in street legal drag racing wage war at the annual parade of power. This year, the Unlimited class is broken into two separate categories: one for the truly anything-goes, lightweight, composite-bodied race cars, and an Unlimited Iron division for the competitors who have OEM, steel body cars.
There are, fittingly, eight cars entered in total, with four cars in each, with all the usual suspects planning to attend. In the Unlimited class, Tom Bailey and his stunning new Sick Seconds 2.0 Camaro, with 5-second potential is entered, as is reigning overall champion Jeff Lutz, Texas’ Dave Ahokas, and David Schroeder.
Interestingly, one of the big stories is the entry of Larry Larson, who at this stage in the game is planning to being his famous 1966 Chevy II to compete on the Unlimited Iron category, rather than his 5-second, Chevrolet S-10 that he debuted on Drag Week last year. The five-time champion (all of those in the Chevy II) will have to contend with Drag Week vet Joe Barry, last year’s breakout performer, Doug Cline, and Indiana’s Bryant Goldstone.
This year’s Drag Week kicks off at the Gateway Motorsports Park near St. Louis on September 13, with stops at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wisconsin, the Cordova Dragway Park in Illinois, and back to Madison, Illinois where it all began.
