Ageless wonder Willard Kinzer has served notice to the radial racing world: there’s a new player at the table, and he ain’t playing for second place!
ProLine Racing’s own Eric Dillard drove Kinzer’s Ford Mustang to a 4.07 at a ridiculous 199 MPH in testing at Holly Springs today.
The chassis for this build is a 1998 Mustang, originally built by Bell Chassisworks for Danny Lowry to take on the Outlaw 10.5 world. After a stint in the Crisafulli Brothers camp, the car was purchased by Mr. Kinzer and shipped to RK Racecraft, where Ryan Rakestraw and the crew updated the car for 2014.
Power for the sleek ‘Stang comes from a ProLine Racing Engines 481X combo, featuring PLR’s new Stage 3 heads. Air is force-fed into the billet bullet by a pair of Precision Turbo Pro Mod 98mm slugs — a setup that’s conservatively estimated to make over 4,000 horsepower. Bud Hodge, who runs ProLine’s Media department (and who is also responsible for PLR’s awesome YouTube videos) says this is the first outing for the new 481X Stage 3 heads without boost restrictions, and as you can see, this bad boy makes some steam on the top end!
After a fairly conservative launch (the 60′ time was a respectable 1.09) you can audibly hear the engine turn to full-on beast mode about 100′ downtrack as the rear end squats and and the RPM’s climb. Dillard tripped the 330′ clocks at 2.82 seconds, then motored to a 4.07 through the finish line. That gives the team one of the quicker back-splits (the time it takes to cover the second 330’ of track) in radial racing, a stellar 1.2466!
Needless to say, Willard Kinzer is going to roll into the gates at SGMP this weekend as one of the favorites to lay down some record-breaking numbers and show the young guns how it’s done!
