With the new Pro Stock 2010 Mustangs finally giving Ford drag racing fans something to cheer about. Top Sportsman racers Chuck and Andy Horne commissioned Advanced Chassis from Antwerp Ohio to build one of the first NHRA Sportsman class cars with the new 2010 body. Last November, the Hornes acquired a 2010 Mustang fiberglass body from Ford Racing and in 8 months the car rolled out of the Advance Chassis shop a true work of art.

The engine is a 645 cubic inch Ford built by Bischoff Racing Engines.  The engine is out of Bischoff’s yellow NMCA Pro Street legal Mercury Cougar with a smaller nitrous system and cam. The engine block is from C&C Motorsports and heads are Gen. 1 Thor heads from Blue Thunder. With all the engine power the transmission features a Neal Chance converter mated to a powerglide transmission. The rearend is a Strange Engineering unit with Hoosier Tires at all four corners.

Interior updates include a RacePack dash, Speedwire control box and Stroud safety belts.  In testing at a Summit Raceway Park in Norwalk Ohio the new car made three passes at [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected]. on just motor , with a best 60ft time of 1.09. With some fine tuning, future racing plans for the Horne’s include running as many of the Division 3 Top Sportsman and Quick 8 events as possible.
