Street Outlaws: New Orleans cast member Jerry Bird has been arguably the most wanted man in no prep racing over the last year, but early on Sunday morning, he became one of Dallas, Texas’ most wanted when he was apprehended following a real-life street racing run-in with law enforcement officers.
An undisclosed location in the Dallas/Forth Worth area was the site of Dallas Cash Days on Friday and Saturday night, featuring 32 bad-fast cars. Bird, who has become one of the top players in no prep racing in his nitrous oxide-injected Ford Probe after cashing in on several high-profile Big Tire victories, advanced through the first four rounds of competition to the final of the event.
But the only winner on this night was the Fort Worth Police department.
As Bird and his opponent staged up for the final, word was radioed from the top end that officers had descended on the area, but the message wasn’t relayed quite in time, as the flashlight was lit and the two launched into the darkness. Bird’s opponent, quick to realize the signals being relayed, aborted his run and exited the premises while Bird ran right into the long arm of the law.
Bird was arrested and his Probe impounded just before the sun arose on Sunday morning. He was released on Sunday evening and the car is expected to be freed from impound this week, conveniently just in time for this weekend’s Dirty South No Prep race in San Antonio, where he’ll once again be a favorite.
For those keeping score, as previously agreed upon, Bird and his opponent split the pot and no winner was determined, as the finale was considered null and void.
