Fuel Up: Atomizer Fuel Systems New Swivel Fitting Injector

Fuel injectors have been squirting fuel into the combustion chambers of engines for many a years in the racing universe, but they aren’t a one-size-fits-all item. There are some cases where having a fuel rail with injectors isn’t an option, so Atomizer Fuel Systems cooked up something new. Their new swivel fitting injector makes getting rid of the O-ring style injector a reality and provides more freedom of how fuel injectors are positioned.

The concept of having injectors without rails was first used by Atomizer Fuel Systems with a blower combination that Todd and Ty Tutterow campaigned in the ADRL. Those injectors had a female fitting on top and worked well at eliminating the fuel rail while allowing the injector to pivot as needed.

Brian Moore of Moore Performance Motorsport approached Jack French and the Atomizer team about coming up with a new injector that would eliminate the fuel rail and allow each injector to be removed one at a time if needed. This injector would be designed for boosted, nitrous, and naturally-aspirated applications that have different injector requirements than a rowdy roots or screw-blown engine.

French explains what went into designing this new injector and how it operates as part of the fuel system.

“We came up with a -7AN fitting, which is the same style fitting in the intake, but it has a bigger 5/8-18 thread. So now racers can tap the current injector bung in the runner with the proper thread. This eliminates the need for fuel rails since we have a male -4AN fitting on top of the injector that you run -4 line from the top of the injector to the fuel distribution block that we also supply. You can get that block in 8 or 16 ports based on injectors.”

Currently, Atomizer Fuel Systems is working on getting the new injectors built along with the fuel blocks. You can visit the Atomizer Fuel Systems website right here to learn more about how they can design a fuel injector for your specific combination.
