If you thought the competition in the NMCA’s headliner Pro Street category was tough in 2010, look out because it’s about to get ratcheted up a notch in 2011. West coast heavy hitter Clint Hairston and the Hairston Motorsports team have announced their intentions to move their racing operation all the way to the buckeye state of Ohio, where they will campaign the tough NMCA trail. There, they’ll face the likes of defending champ Chris Rini who holds the current national record, Troy Coughlin, Joe Dunne, and Jeff Lutz.
Hairston earned the PSCA Pro Street crown this season, setting numerous elapsed time and speed records there and with the WCHRA along the way. The teams’ 2007 Pontiac GTO, powered by a Kenny Duttweiler-built 377 cubic inch twin turbo small block has recorded a best lap of 6.08 seconds and 240.77 MPH, putting him in prime position to challenge the nitrous-assisted Dodge of Rini for Pro Street supremacy in 2011.
The decision to relocate comes on the heels of Jake Hairston, the teams’ crew chief, accepting a new position as Director of Racing at Jeg’s located in Ohio.
Jim Hairston, Team Owner, commented “Clint and I are very excited for Jake. This is a wonderful opportunity and significant career advancement. Our decision to move the car was easy. Wherever Jake goes the car goes since he is the heart and soul of the team when it comes to preparing and tuning our Twin Turbo GTO. Clint and I will remain in California and plan on flying into the NMCA races.”
Hairston further remarked, “With great regret, we will be leaving the PSCA along with many great friends and competitors. Although we have not finalized our 2011 schedule, we are planning on competing at the PSCA 2011 opener so we can proudly show off our PRO 1 number with plans to return in November for the Street Car Super Nationals.”
