Over on the ADRL website, Agent 660 is reporting that Pro Extreme driver Jason Hamstra will return to competition this weekend at the Simpson Dragstock VII at Rockingham Dragway behind the wheel of a new (to him) car. Hamstra has teamed up with Andy McCoy Race Cars out of Washington, MO to campaign their 1970 Plymouth Duster at Rockingham and for the remainder of the season. While sporting a new wrap down each side of the car, you may recognize this as the very same car that previously ran in the Pro Nitrous division with Thomas “Tom Slick” Myers at the controls. Myers struggled early on with the new car blues and encountered recent troubles with his race car trailer that have forced him to miss the last handful of ADRL events, thus the decision was made by McCoy to take a new direction with the car.
McCoy and his staff have been burning the midnight oil to get the nitrous-assisted Duster transformed into a screw-blown terror in time for the Rockingham event. Hamstra has been sidelined for the last two race weekends on the schedule – at Houston and St. Louis – following a pair of unfortunate accidents at back-to-back events at Martin in June and Topeka in July. He still sits in the 12th spot in the Pro Extreme points standings despite his absence, but strong performances in Rockingham and Norwalk could boost him into the Battle For the Belts at seasons end. Hamstra challenged for the Pro Extreme championship last season, ultimately finishing the year a very respectable third in the standings following a devastating to end crash that destroyed his 1968 Firebird. The McCoy-built Duster has been one of the most popular rides to debut in some time, and the old girl just got a little more feisty.
