Henchmen Racing’s Alan Wofford Runs in the 8s With Stock Coyote

It seems pretty commonplace these days to have a really fast Coyote-powered Mustang. What’s amazing, though, is the fact that a lot of these really fast Mustangs still feature a stock engine. Not much else around the engine is as-delivered from Ford, but for a stock engine (long block) to be able to support the power necessary to run in the 8s like many of these cars are running is pretty astounding.

The slip doesn't lie. Wofford was able to dip into the 8-second zone with an 8.94 at 151 mph with a stock Coyote long block.

The slip doesn’t lie. Wofford was able to dip into the 8-second zone with an 8.94 at 151 mph with a stock Coyote long block at Caprock Motorplex, outside Odessa, Texas. Wofford and Triangle’s Daniel Pachar slowly but surely stepped up the tune in order to get the car into the 8s.

For Alan Wofford and Kenny Rice from Henchmen Racing, the guys wanted to see the Coyote engine’s full capabilities so they built up everything around the engine’s long block, and strapped a big turbo to it for good measure. The engine does benefit from Triangle Speed Shop oil pump gears, but the stock gears would’ve probably signed off a long time ago, more than likely taking out the engine in the process.

With that part of the engine set for battle, the other mods are able to show the rest of the stock engine’s potential. Starting from the top, it has a Boss intake, a Borg-Warner big single (80mm, specifically) turbocharger with a Boost Leash controller, a Pro-Formance Turbo Glide transmission, a Racecraft 9-inch rear with Strange Engineering axles and third member, and a custom SCT tune from Triangle Speed Shop’s Daniel Pachar.

All the hard work paid off recently when Wofford ran an 8.94 at 151 mph. The whole car is doing its job, as evidenced by the 1.329 short time. However, the 8.94 is the stock engine’s last hurrah. It’s coming out to get the car ready for the NMRA World Finals, and the Turbo Coyote Shootout class, which Wofford and Kenny Rice help sponsor as part of Henchmen Racing.

Look for the Henchmen to do really well in the Turbo Coyote Shootout.

This how Wofford’s Coyote-powered Mustang GT looks right now, with a carbon fiber hood. Since Wofford ran an 8.94 with the stock engine, with a built engine in the car, he’s looking to go much quicker at the NMRA World Finals.
