There’s no shortage of Mustang drag cars for sale. At any given moment there are several class cars that one could jump in and be competitive right off the bat. We’ll go out on a limb and say every Mustang race car is for sale if the price is right. And if they just blew it up, it’s not running right, or maybe right after a rule change, you’ll often be able to pick up a car at a hefty discount.
Unfortunately, Joe Charles is selling his NMRA Coyote Stock car, but not for any of the above reasons. Charles and his wife Kelly have started a mattress store business, and business is good. So good that the couple is adding another store, which means Charles may not have the time to dedicate to a race season. Plus, we think he wants a new GT350, anyway.
So for the $35,000 asking price, what will the new owner get? Well, the new owner will get a 5-time championship winning car with the best of the best in it. The car’s former owner Tim Matherly of MV Performance built and raced the car for NMRA Real Street, and won 4 championships in that form before Charles turned it into a Coyote Stock car, winning the 2012 championship.
The car has a complete Team Z Motorsports suspension, Strange Engineering double-adjustable shocks and struts, Aerospace Components brakes, Weld Racing Magnum one-piece wheels up front and Bogart Force 5 wheels out back, along with Mickey Thompson ET Drag slicks for traction. The car has a MV Performance-built 8.8 with Moser Engineering guts, and an MV 10-point roll cage, and anti-roll bar.
Of course, the car will have the class-spec Ford Performance Sealed Coyote Crate engine, Ram Clutch, a Liberty-prepped Tremec TKO transmission, Kooks headers and exhaust system, and a Weldon fuel system.
“This is the first car to run a 10.2 in NMRA Coyote Stock competition, and is the current speed record holder at 130.92 mph,” Charles says. Therefore, the new owner will be able to jump right in, and be right in the thick of the ultra-competitive Coyote Stock class.
Maybe the new owner can beat Shiftin’ Shane Stymiest. Whoops, did we type that out loud?
