The Holden brand has many different styles of cars that we may not see over here in the States, although they are all run off GM parts and the engine is genuine GM. One of the models the Holden produces is the Ute. This vehicle is a cross between a car and a truck. It comes equipped with a 6 liter V8 the produces 362 horsepower.
An owner over at LS1Tech.com turned his Ute into a high horsepower twin turbo drag racing machine. With adding horsepower and a lot of boost with the twin turbos, the engine was upgraded and stroked to a 408ci. With the L92 heads it gave the engine a compression of 8.9:1. This will allow the boost to be turned up without any trouble.
The twin turbo’s are a Garrett GT4788Rs. Due to the increased air pressure, the owner installed twin wastegates for each of the turbos. An upgraded fuel system including fuel lines and rails where also installed.
The car is running 17.5 psi putting down 652 RWKW @ 5500 rpms. In US calculations this car put down a whopping 875hp! At only 17 psi the turbos have plenty of room to grow and push the horsepower over 1000hp! With that much horsepower the owner went off to the track to do some testing to see what it would run in the quarter mile. The car ran a best to date time of 9.95 @ 147 mph in the ¼. Watch out for more boost and increased quarter mile times.
