Steve Johnson has been a leader in the nitrous oxide power adder market either as a racer or through his company Induction Solutions [2] since the 1980s, and to assist his customers even more, Johnson and the team at Induction Solutions will be rolling out a shop car that will serve as a test bed for new products. This new car will help Induction Solutions staff better understand what their customers are seeing in the field and give them insight on how to troubleshoot problems.

The new shop car is a 1990 Z28 Camaro that will utilize a stock-suspension setup and will be sitting on a pair of Mickey Thompson [5] 275 radial tires. Under the hood of the Chevrolet is a Brodix [6] aluminum block that measures a stout 588 cubic inches. The rotating assembly will use a Callies [7] crank, Oliver [8] rods, and Diamond [9] pistons. A prototype pair of Brodix heads, Edelbrock [10] Super Victor II intake, and Gen 3 Holley [11] Ultra 1250 carburetor will be used to bring air into the motor. The electronics will be handled by all MSD [12] products featuring a Grid unit.

The new car will start out with an experimental X275 direct port system on it that can make up to 800 horsepower and will be managed by an Induction Solution’s Nitrous Power Controller. The car also will be using an Induction Solutions Mist A Fire Direct Port Water Injection System to assist with keeping cylinder temperatures down when lots of nitrous is being sprayed.
According to Induction Solutions Matt Snow-Johnson, this car is going to be an important tool for future R&D.

From nitrous system setup to helping with wiring or programming things like progressive controllers, RacePak [15] units, and Grids, this car will give our employees better insight as to what our customers are referring to when they call in with questions.”
Steve Johnson will be behind the wheel of the car during the shakedown phase. The car itself will be X275 legal, but there are no plans to do any class racing with it at this time.
