Jacob Lamb Ready To Lay It Down At The NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl

While Jacob Lamb’s introduction to NMRA was by way of Exedy Racing Clutch Modular Muscle in 2010, he and his 1986 Mustang cruised to G-Force Racing Transmissions Coyote Stock when the highly competitive class was introduced in 2012.

With a sealed Coyote engine under the hood of his very clean and very capable machine, he sailed to 10.70s while rowing the gears of his G-Force Racing Transmissions T5 and earned a fifth place finish in points that year.

He jumped to a second place finish in points in 2013, a sixth place finish in points in 2014, an eleventh place finish in points in 2015 and a third place finish in points in 2016. Now, with the same engine he’s had since he joined the class paired with the G-Force Racing Transmissions G101A he moved to last year, he’s focused on flying to a championship this year in the car he built years ago in his two-car attached garage in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

He began his quest at the 23rd Annual Nitto NMRA Spring Break Shootout at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida in March, where he stick-shifted to a personal best of 10.11 to qualify in the second position and made it to the second round in the car rolling on UPR suspension and 26X10 Mickey Thompson slicks.

He uncorked a 10.24 to set the pace in qualifying at the second NMRA race of the season, the 9th Annual NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals at Atlanta Dragway in April, and picked up to a 10.21 in the final round to earn his trip to the Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle.

“I had the closest round I have ever had at that race,” said Lamb. “It was against Shane Stymiest in the semifinal. He got me on the tree, but I caught him on the top end and barely edged him out. It was two and a half inches, and the margin of victory was .001. I definitely don’t forget those things.”

While Lamb led qualifying again with a 10.22 at the 17th Annual WyoTech NMRA Ford Motorsport Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Pennsylvania in May, rain forced organizers to make the decision to run eliminations at the 14th Annual NMRA Ford Super Nationals at National Trail Raceway in Ohio in June. There, after removing the car from the trailer for the first time since the race in Pennsylvania, he made it to the third round of the make-up Pennsylvania race, led qualifying — again — with a 10.24 for the Ohio race and advanced all the way to the semifinal before exiting competition by falling off to a 10.28.

“I didn’t have my line-lock set and I rolled in too deep when I was staging, and as a result, I lost my focus and had a bad reaction time,” said Lamb. “But when something like that happens, you shake your opponent’s hand, congratulate him on his win and move on.”

Currently second in G-Force Racing Transmissions Coyote Stock points with just 25 points separating him from points leader Shane Stymiest, he’s revved up and ready to roll into the 12th Annual Nitto NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing, July 27-30, 2017 at Route 66 Raceway in Illinois.

“In my first year running Coyote Stock at the race in Joliet, I got to the final and got a Super Bowl ring, but I haven’t done well at that race since then,” said Lamb. “I know I’ll have my work cut out for me running against the likes of Tim Matherly, Charlie Booze, Jr., Brandon Alsept, Drew Lyons, Shane Stymiest, Darin Hendricks, Carlos Sobrino and the others, but I would really like to do well there, and I’m going to work my butt off and try.”

Lamb is supported in his efforts by his fiancee, Beverly Johnson, Billy and Matt Fint, Fastrax Speed Shop, Smith Automotive Machine Shop, MV Performance, G-Force Racing Transmissions, L&M Salvage and JLT Performance.
