Radial tire standout Josh Klugger is trying to win his first NMCA Radial Wars title in 2017, and is locked in a real battle with David Adkins who currently holds down the number one spot in the standings. To get that extra edge needed on the track, Klugger has made the switch to a pair of 94 mm Garrett turbos that will feed boost into the ProLine Racing powerplant that resides under the hood.
Klugger has been around the heads-up game for many years and knows that you need to do whatever you can to pick up performance on the track. “We’re looking for any kind of advantage we can find right now to help get us our championship in Radial Wars. Based on what we’ve seen, the larger exhaust housing of the GTX 5533R will reduce the back pressure and we can lean on the engine harder.”
Making a switch like this to a new set of turbos before a critical race may seem risky to some, but the advantages the turbos provide are exactly what Klugger is looking for.
“We think these turbos will produce more boost and have less drag as they operate. The biggest difference will be the 1.30 A/R exhaust wheel helping to drop the back pressure in the system. From the outside looking in, the Garrett products allow more versatility for us to make whatever combination we need when it comes to our turbos.”
Klugger and his team just picked up the potent Fox Body Mustang from RK Racecraft and plan on debuting the new Garrett turbos at Route 66 Raceway during the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl next week.
