If you just so happen to bleed Ford blue, or even just appreciate a little brand diversity out on the race track, you’ve got to admit the new Mustang coming into the NHRA Pro-Stock ranks was a big leap back into the drag racing picture for Ford. After creating quite a few Ponies over the years that have proven themselves to become arguably the most popular drag racing chassis,’ obviously Ford is good at building something that catches on. After the ’10 Mustang popped it’s head into competition, 3 year Pro-Stock driver Justin Humphreys signed the deal to get himself behind the wheel of one.
The announcement isn’t much of fresh news, thanks to a post on Yellowbullet, we’ve finally got our first glimpse of a rendering done by Burke Designs.
With the help of Roush/Yates Engines and their recent commitment to come on into the drag racing world, Humphreys’ new ‘Stang will be running Ford’s all-new 500 Cu. In. engine, which was developed by RYE. Humphreys’ will be the first driver to utilize an Roush/Yates engine in the Pro Stock category. Between this new NHRA ride, and Steve Matusek’s similar twin turbo version of the ’10 Mustang, Roush/Yates are certainly going to be represented in style this year. Will their vast amount of experience in circle track racing power plants help them, or will it be like starting from scratch and learning to walk all over again?
Humphreys currently rests 21st in NHRA Pro-Stock points, which is definitely not where the team would like to be. If all goes well, this new ride will be the big boost that this team has been looking for this year. It makes me wonder, with Ex-pro stock legend Bob Glidden being Humphreys’ crew cheif, and Ford getting with the team on a new car, is it just a coincidence?
OK, now that you’ve feasted your eyes upon this enticing rendering, what do you think about it? Me personally, I can’t wait to see the real thing running down the 1320 soon.
