Battling heat related issues in any racing application can be a big headache if you’re serious about going fast. There are a multitude of things under the hood of a race car that don’t like to be exposed to high temperatures, including various electronics and important hoses. Excessive heat can also make it difficult to work on the car between rounds if you’re in a pitch for time.
Design Engineering Inc. has products intended to help address heat issues under the hood, and their Titanium Exhaust Wrap is one that any racer, at any level, will find valuable. The innovation that DEI put into their Titanium Exhaust Wrap is extraordinary, and is a great product for any racer looking to cut down on heat from exposed exhaust parts.
Using something called “LR Technology”, DEI took pulverized lava rock and infused the mixture into their fiber material, then constructed their proprietary weave.
The heat tolerance for the wrap is up to 1800˚F of direct heat, and 2500˚F of intermittent heat. DEI also made sure that the wrap is easy to apply by making it extremely flexible, so it can be used on virtually any type of exhaust component on your car no matter how tight the space is. The wrap is also tough and is very resistant to scrapes, oil, and vibration breakdown.
We’ve used this same wrap on an X275 drag car with an 88mm turbo with great results. When we needed to service the car between rounds the heat levels under the hood were very impressively low after a run.The wraps also held up very well over the course of the season even with running the car up to three times a month.
Besides putting out a top notch product, DEI also makes installation easy, as seen in this video filled with tips on getting the perfect fit. In this detailed installation video DEI gives you some great tips on how to get your wrap to fit right, and look great.
Some of the information covered includes how to estimate the amount of loops needed, spacing of the wrap overlap, priming the wrap around the tubes, and how to correctly secure the wrap when finished.
If you’re looking to reduce engine bay heat, no matter what kind of race car you drive the Titanium Exhaust Wrap is the solution you need.
