Anyone building a top level heads up car has had the debate – supercharger or turbocharger. Mario Orsini for the longest time sat on the supercharger side of the fence. His 7/8th scale 55 Chevy had a classic two tone paint job, and a fat blown engine running on alcohol that regularly resulted in him reaching the six second zone. According to Chicago Wise Guys’ website, the fastest the car has traveled the 1320 was a smokin 6.80 @ 204 MPH – but it was time for a change.
Mario has owned this car for 7 years now and it has seen some changes over the years. First built it as a 706 NOS car, Mario soon was begging for more and did what most guys would do – slap the biggest blower he could find on it. But that would only satisfy his thrust for speed for so long. It was time for turbo, and not just one.
Mario put in a call to Mike Miller to handle the logistics of mounting the twin 88 mm turbos. One interesting thing to note is the intake used on this car. You die hards will note that the car is still using a blower intake on it. While this is true Mario has had more done than just a different tube hooked up to it. The intake was sent off to Proline where they worked on converting the blower intake to something that would better suit the turbos. Mario couldn’t be happier with the way everything came out and who wouldn’t. The craftsmanship of this car is super clean, just what you would expect from a classic 55.
Plans from here is to take the car on tour with the NMCA crowd as well as making it out to the Chicago Wise Guys events once it is completed. Look for this 55 to be running mid to low 6s if everything goes as planned. Check out the rest of the photos we found below!
