Despite claims that he may depart the factory hot class that he’s called home for more than 25 years — longer than any other active driver — Larry Morgan will be back for another year in Pro Stock. Only this time, he’ll be behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Camaro, with sponsorship from the folks at FireAde and championship-caliber horsepower from Gray Motorsports.
“We look forward to a long and successful partnership with Larry and his team,” FireAde President and Chief Executive Officer Ron Thames said. “Like us, Larry puts family first but he also knows how to get things done, and we know our relationship will only get stronger as the year progresses. We can’t wait to see the FireAde Chevy go down the track many times.”
Morgan commissioned a brand new Jerry Haas Race Cars-built Camaro — the first Chevrolet product he’s driven since 1999 — and will soon have the FireAde paint scheme applied in time for preseason testing and the season opener in Pomona.
We wanted to come back and do it right, and Ron and FireAde are giving us the chance to do it right.
“We’re definitely excited to partner with such a good company like FireAde. Ron Thames is a class act, and he has done a lot for firefighters across the world to do their jobs better. This is an exciting time of year for us.”
Morgan, who has operated his own in-house engine program for years, will temporarily cease development as he leases engines from the perennial frontrunners at Gray Motorsports, led by good friend Johnny Gray.
“For us to start over from scratch on an engine program would have been more costly than it would be to lease,” Morgan said. “We felt the Grays were the best fit for us right now. We’ve been friends for more than 35 years,” Morgan said. “It’s an honor for us to be able to race with them again. We feel they’re at the top with horsepower, and we look forward to having a good time.”
FireAde 2000 is a 100% environmentally-friendly firefighting agent produced by Fire Service Plus, which Thames founded in 1998. The brand is now a worldwide leader in the firefighting industry.
