Lingenfelter’s Supercharged LS9 Camaro Running In The Low 10’s Consistently

The L99 and LS3-powered Camaro’s are pretty buff in their own right, but there’s no denying the supercharged LS9 engine package in the Corvette ZR1 is packing a heavier punch. When Lingenfelter was looking for an engine to build on for their own showcase car, an LS9 was selected. With the addition of headers, some serious head porting and in-house produced supercharger upgrades, the car was now putting down a much improved 855 horsepower, all being done with the stock crankshaft and rods in place. Some good numbers, but can it put it down come race-day? Lingenfelter has brought it out to the track a few times this year to answer that very question, and improvements are being made with each and every run.

In its first race of the year during Camaro5Fest in Valdosta,GA back in April, Lingenfelter managed to get the car down the track with a 10.36 at 139mph. Not too shabby for a first time out, but we know there’s plenty of E/T still on the table. After a little more seat-time yanking gears on a TR6060 manual transmission, they most recently brought the car back out to Muncie Drag Strip for some new numbers. The MPH dropped from their first runs down to 137, a new personal best E/T was in order as their best of the day was a 10.23, progress at last. Checkout Lingenfelter’s website for more on the car’s most recent runs.

Lingenfelter has been at the leading edge of building kickass GM rides for a while, but in the words of owner Ken Lingenfelter, “This specially prepared Camaro SS – which boasts the Lingenfelter ZR1 LS9 engine, several Lingenfelter ZR1 supercharger upgrades and a TR6060 manual transmission – is our latest project vehicle to showcase more than 30 years of performance engineering experience.” I’ve got a hunch this is one of his most enjoyable builds in quite some time, and rightfully so. Time to get this beast into the 9’s!
